Out-Think is my philosophy that smart and sound strategy and positioning (out-thinking) is the key to battling against competitors who can out-spend your brand or company. We also spoke about social media basics and the importance of creating an easy-to-remember value proposition to communicate to their consumers.

I spoke with a wonderful group of very impressive start-ups, who are hard at work, learning about some of the unique features of Windows 7 and drawing from Microsoft’s off-shore developers to get their products up and running! The start-ups are surely worth checking out at their respective websites:

The event is currently by invitation only, but if you are interested in attending this event or a future one, e-mail me.

Here are the details about the event from Eventbrite:

THE CONCEPT

The concept behind the Mobile Marketing Roundtable is quite simple: gather those who have the most invested in and the most to gain by innovating mobile marketing around a table and talk. Of course, we want the conversation that ensues to be a productive and meaningful experience for everyone present, so we’re picking and choosing those we invite so that we have the resources to make our utopian future of mobile marketing a reality.

WHO’S INVITED

We’re inviting industry movers and shakers who are responsible for agency innovation, publishing, brand management, and mobile technology development. In order to manage the size and quality of the event, the Mobile Marketing Roundtable is currently an invite-only event. If you would like an invitation or are interested in future events, feel free to send us a note at MMR [at] ben-grossman [dot] com.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN

While you enjoy a tasty (and free) catered lunch, your host, Ben Grossman, will give a mobile marketing industry overview. The overview and discussion will include compelling information about the rise of mobile as an opportunity for marketers and brands, along with a short analysis of available technology in the space (including a first look at and demo of some new technology from our gracious sponsor, Pongr).

Then, the roundtable begins. Guests will have an open floor to float their mobile marketing ideas, apprehensions, and inquiries. However, we’re hoping the main discussion topic will be mobile marketing solutions. What do marketers need in order to make our mobile marketing utopias a reality? How can we get there and who needs to be involved? Does the technology we’ve talked about come close or fit the bill?

QUESTIONS?

If you have a question about the Mobile Marketing Roundtable or Pongr, please feel free to send us a note at MMR [at] ben-grossman [dot] com or give us a call at +1.617.938.3505.

If you are attending the event and would like to meet with Pongr privately, please be in touch. We will be available on the day of the event and/or would be happy to schedule a meeting on a separate occasion.

Association of Career Professionals: How We All Became Elvis

On the evening of February 26, 2009, I was asked by my good friend Ken Mattsson to speak to the Boston Association of Career Professionals about online personal branding. Below is the deck I presented. It was geared towards social networking newbies, but has valuable lessons and reminders for all of us who live any part of our lives online.

Ben Grossman (Chief Strategist at BiGMarK, Inc.) and Elizabeth Hannan (Website Marketing & Social Media Manager of Pragmatic Marketing) moderated a lively discussion with the 20+ attendees on a wide range of issues pursuant to the theme, Social Media in 2009 | Look Both Ways. Topics that were discussed included a review of Social Media in 2008 (mainstream acceptance, most effective use, the shifting communication model in journalism and life) and forecasts of what is to come in 2009 (viability of content aggregation, where influence resides, political implications).

Christi Woods, from sponsor Herman, Goldstein, and Forsyth P.C., gave a very compelling overview of how social media is a game changer for the legal profession: from evidentiary issues to professional networking.

SMBP2 Theme: Social Media in 2009 | Look Both Ways
SMBP2 will feature a series of two sets of discussions:

1) Backwards: Examining how social media technologies, practices, and proliferation changed over the course of 2008. Did your business or clients change their views? Did social media go mainstream? Did social media find a place next to or immersed in traditional marketing, advertising, and public relations?

2) Forwards: Projecting, on the heels of the Consumer Electronics Show and a slew of predictive positing by thought leaders, what 2009 has in store for social media. Will the mainstream populace finally ‘get it?’ Will businesses and clients be more willing to embrace social media? What tools must or should we develop to steward the next generation of social media evolution?

Speakers
If you would be willing to moderate and/or lead one of these discussions (in either or both categories), please e-mail Ben Grossman at SMBP {at} ben-grossman {dot} com

Over an evening of networking and explaining our concepts, the entrants were judged based on various criterion by judges, guests, and Steve Halling, President of the AMA Boston. I entered the work I did with www.TalkToRunningMan.com as part of the AIM: Connect. Engage. campaign for AOL.

At the conclusion of the night, I was more than excited to be awarded the top three honors of the night:

People’s Choice Award: Most Creative Concept
Chapter Award: Most Creative Concept
President’s Award: Best Creative Presentation

Thank you to all the wonderful people who were so interested in this initiative and to the people who stopped me on the streets of Boston to ask about the 4-foot Running Man I was carrying around.
